Sarah Asebedo '04, '11, '16

Sarah Asebedo, Ph.D., teaches and conducts research in the School of Financial Planning at Texas Tech University. She is the School Director and the Director of the Ph.D. Program and the Life-Centered Financial Planning graduate certificate. She is a Certified Financial Plannerâ„¢ and has spent about half of her career as a professional financial planner and the other half in academia. Her research helps people make sound financial decisions that enhance their financial and overall well-being, in addition to helping financial professionals create vibrant and impactful client relationships through theory and intervention development.

Sarah's practice and academic experience have earned notable industry and research recognition, including the 2016 Montgomery-Warschauer Award, 2017 Top 40 Under 40 Award from Investment News, and 2014, 2017, and 2018 Best Research Award from the Journal of Financial Planning and Academy for Financial Services. She is a past president of the Financial Therapy Association and the current Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Financial Therapy.

Sarah is a three-time College of Health and Human Sciences graduate, receiving her bachelor's degree in personal financial planning in 2004, her master's degree in family studies and human services in 2011, and her PhD. in personal financial planning in 2016.
