Wally Walstrom, DO, MS, CAQSM, is the Director of Sports Medicine for Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas. He serves as the head team physician, health care administrator and the medical director for Fort Hays State University Athletics, roles he has held since 2016.
Prior to his time with Fort Hays State University, Wally worked with various levels of athletes including those in high school football and wrestling, college football and baseball, and professional football, hockey, baseball and Ironman competitors.
Wally holds two degrees from Kansas City University. He received a master’s degree in bioscience in 2008 before he received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in 2012. He went on to complete his residency at Via Christi Family Medicine in Wichita, Kansas, where he stayed to complete a sports medicine fellowship in 2016. He is certified with the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians. He also holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine.
Outside of work, Wally can be found pole vaulting, rafting, playing basketball, traveling, going to sporting events and training for triathlons.
Wally is a two-time K-State graduate, receiving a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology in 2005 and a bachelor’s degree in human nutrition in 2007.
