Haley Van Wagenen, IIDA, LEED AP BD+C
Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, LLP (Chicago, Illinois)
Senior Interior Designer
Following graduation from the interior design program in 2008, Haley began working at SOM in Washington, D.C. There, she worked on large projects in the government sector. A love of history and a desire to promote sustainability took her to the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned a master's degree in historic preservation and a certificate in ecological architecture. Her thesis work focused on using BIM to create a living model of a historic building to aid in renovations and reuse. During school, she worked part-time for SOM New York. Since joining the New York office, she has focused on large corporate headquarters for financial institutions and technology companies around the world.
Currently, Haley is part of the SOM's Chicago office. She resides in London, working on a project for an international organization in Geneva, Switzerland. The 2.2 million square foot project involves renovation of a historic building and the design of office space in a new building on site. She leads the interior design of the project with her design director and serves as the on-site client contact in Geneva. This position allows her to travel around the world and explore cultures. She is a Certified Interior Designer in the State of New York and holds an NCIDQ certificate in addition to being a LEED AP BD+C.
