Welcome to the Department of Food, Nutrition, Dietetics and Health

We offer the following undergraduate degree programs:

  • Athletic Training and Rehabilitation Sciences
  • Dietetics
  • Nutritional Sciences
  • Nutrition and Health
  • Sports Nutrition

Students may pursue the following graduate degrees:

  • MS in Dietetics
  • MS in Nutrition, Dietetics, and Sensory Sciences
  • PhD in Food, Nutrition, Dietetics, and Health

We direct two ACEND-accredited Dietetics undergraduate programs, with on-campus and Global Campus (online) degree options. Our graduate dietetics programs provide advanced learning and research opportunities, which completely fulfill the new 2024 RDN Examination Eligibility standards.

Our Nutrition and Health degree is an excellent option to prepare students to be competitive for health science and health promotion careers. Our Nutrition and Health distance program is nationally ranked. This program prepares students for:

  • Nursing
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physician Assistant
  • Public Health fields
  • Community Health professionals

Our undergraduate Athletic Training and Rehabilitation Sciences program is the largest in the state of Kansas, and continues to grow and evolve to meet professional demands. This is a clinically-focused program where students learn about rehabilitation, reconditioning, and therapy to improve physical capacity. This program prepares students to become:

  • Athletic Training
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Medicine/Sports Medicine
  • Physical Therapy
  • Physician Assistant
  • Sports Medicine

Our  Sports Nutrition bachelor's degree is designed to help students prepare for careers that can include sports nutrition, personal training and work in the fitness industry, including product development and research.  These courses will prepare students for professional roles in a variety of setting, including:

  • Professional and Collegiate Sports Teams
  • Pre-Medical preparation for work in Sport and Orthopedic Medicine
  • Community Health and Corporate Wellness
  • Food and Nutrition-Related Business
  • Research and Teaching in Universities or Companies

Our pre-medicine, pre-optometry, and pre-dental Nutritional Sciences degree is excellent at preparing students to enter those respective healthcare fields and/or enter graduate programs to further their academic preparation.

  • 80% of students in this program who apply are accepted into Medical School

To meet the needs of those pursuing graduate degrees (Masters and Doctoral), we offer a variety of MS and PhD options. Our nationally and internationally recognized faculty perform cutting edge researchin several disciplines. Our Sensory Analysis and Consumer Behavior Center is ranked #1 internationally for its research productivity.

Students pursing graduate degrees in public health (MPH) or food science may work directly with our faculty to earn their degrees in those programs.

Our Extension faculty serve K-State Research and Extension consistent with the University’s land-grant mission and are directly involved with improving the lives and well-being of everyone in Kansas, and beyond.
