MS Dietetics course requirements

The Master of Science in Dietetics is a 36-credit hour program. Students may elect to do the thesis option, which involves working with their major professor on a research project, writing a formal thesis, and finally defending that research before their supervisory committee. This program is 9 hours of core courses, 21 hours of electives and 6 credit hours of thesis research. Alternately, a student may choose the non-thesis option which entails taking an additional 6 hours of elective courses in lieu of the thesis research, followed by a comprehensive written and oral examination with their supervisory committee.

Core Courses Required by All Students (9 credit hours):

  • Current issues in dietetics course
  • Basic research methods course
  • Basic statistics course

Thesis Option Courses (27 credit hours):

  • Thesis Research (6 cr.)
  • Elective Courses (21 cr.)
    • These will cover a wide variety of topics to meet the needs of the diverse dietetics profession including clinically-oriented nutrition courses, community or nutrition and health courses, health care administration, management-oriented courses, food science, food service management, etc. By choosing a specific set of elective courses, students may even earn a Graduate Certificate in Business Administration or a Graduate Certificate in Organizational Leadership through K-State's College of Business Administration.

Nonā€thesis Option (27 credit hours):

  • Elective Courses (27 cr.)
    • These will cover a wide variety of topics to meet the needs of the diverse dietetics profession including clinically-oriented nutrition courses, community or nutrition and health courses, health care administration, management-oriented courses, food science, food service management, etc. By choosing a specific set of elective courses, students may even earn a Graduate Certificate in Business Administration or a Graduate Certificate in Organizational Leadership through K-State's College of Business Administration.
