Professional Biography

Dr. Heckman's career objective is to train students to be become competent and ethical financial planning practitioners and researchers. He is passionate about the financial planning profession and is excited to be involved with graduate education due to the field's need for rigorous research and theory development.

Dr. Heckman serves on the editorial boards of Financial Planning Review and Journal of Financial Counseling and Planning. His research has been published in: Journal of Consumer Affairs, International Journal of Consumer Studies, Journal of Financial Counseling and Planning, Journal of Family and Economic Issues, College Student Journal, Journal of College Student Retention: Research, Theory, and Practice, Journal of Veterinary Medical Education, Journal of Financial Planning, and Journal of Financial Therapy.

Personal Information

Much of Dr. Heckman's time outside of K-State is spent with his wife and three kids. He enjoys staying connected to the industry by working as a financial planner with a local fee-only financial planning firm, CGN Advisors. Dr. Heckman is also an active member of the Village, a community of Christian house churches in Manhattan. In his free time, he enjoys watching college football and basketball, being outdoors and reading.

Dr. Heckman had a great undergraduate educational experience at Kansas State University and he feels fortunate to be in the Little Apple. He feels that the outstanding faculty, hard-working students and sense of family on campus make K-State an exceptional place to be.
