Dates set for three fancy fundraisers

Little Black Dress Event

Actress Edie Falcon wore this Little Black Dress.The Little Black Dress, a fashion icon since first created by Coco Chanel in the 1920s, will be honored guest at an exhibit opening at 7 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Beach Museum on campus. Friends of the Historic Costume and Textile Museum will host the fundraiser called Little Black Dress – On the Red Carpet. Tickets are $30.

The exhibit will include clothing and accessories from the museum’s permanent collection. On loan from Little Black Dress Wines will be dresses worn on the real red carpet by television stars Facility Huffman of Desperate Housewives, Edie Falcon of the Sopranos (right) and America Ferrera of Ugly Betty.

The evening will feature jazz, a silent auction, wine and hor d’ oeuvres. For information, call the Department of Apparel, Textiles and Interior Design at 785-532-6993.

Culinary Workshop

Chef Evan KleinmanExecutive chef and owner of Angeli Caffe in Los Angeles and bookbook author Evan Kleiman will headline the Department of Hospitality Management and Dietetics’s annual Culinary Enhancement workshop this year.

The Los Angeles chef wrote Pasta Fresca, Cucina Fresca, and Cucina Rustica (with Viana La Place) as well as Angeli Caffe Pizza Pasta Panini and Cucina del Mare. She is the host of GoodFood, a weekly radio show on Los Angeles National Public Radio.

The workshop will be March 5 and 6 in Derby Food Center. For information, contact Missy Schrader at schrader@ksu.edu.

Travel and Dining Auction

wine-and-chocolate1Fine wines, dinners, airline tickets and vacation lodging will go to the highest bidders April 17 at the annual Travel and Dining Auction at the K-State Alumni Center.

Among the 2008 auction items were a golf excursion, a fine wine tasting for 12 and a myriad of gift baskets and dining gift certificates.

Hospitality management students plan and execute the event; the profit pays for scholarships and student professional development. Tickets are $15. For more information, contact Pat Pesci at patpesci@ksu.edu.
