Athletic training students named to state honor rolls

The Kansas Athletic Trainers’ Society recently honored undergraduate students for their academic achievements in accredited athletic education programs in Kansas.

First team all-academic honors, for juniors or higher during the calendar year 2013 and have maintained a minimum of 3.8 grade point average, were awarded to:

Morgan Ball, Reeds Spring, MO.; Breanna Hamilton, Clearwater; Ethan Koochel, Great Bend; Ryan Lahey, Wichita; Kayla Scwhalenberg, Plano, Tx.; and Kacia Turner, Topeka.

Second team honors, requiring a minimum 3.6 GPA, went to:

Jessica Cottrell, Lawrence; Alex Crawford, Topeka; Braden Hynek, Hanover; Jesse Johnson, Manhattan; Drew Mueller, Iola; Julianne Perrini, Fairway; Nathan Roth, Holcomb; and Brandy Tholstrup, Wichita.

Students receiving honorable mention, sophomore status or higher with a minimum of 3.4 GPA, were:

Paige Blackmon, Prosper, Tx.; Calley Brey, Manhattan; Erica Dubek, Flower Mound, Tx.; Derek Hammer, Rossville; Nicole Perrin; Rachael Plotas, Overland Park; Lindy Sasse, Hutchinson; Jessica Spencer, De Soto; Matthew Stafford; Overland Park; Jessica Steele, Garnett; Tyler Struckoff, Fort Collins, Co.; and Bridgette Westhoff, Olathe.

Students in athletic training program in the Department of Human Nutrition, College of Human Ecology, study the concepts and skills to properly manage the healthcare problems associated with physical activity. They prepare for careers as allied-health professionals and for the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification examination, leading to certification and the credential of certified athletic trainer.
