Lauren Nutt wins best of show; other exhibit, runway winners announced

Lauren Nutt, a senior in apparel and textiles from Wichita, won the Best in Show award at the Apparel, Textiles, and Interior Design Student Symposium Showcase of Excellence this week on the Kansas State University campus.

Winners of the juried exhibit and runway show were announced Thursday. The Department of Apparel, Textiles, and Interior Design, College of Human Ecology, sponsored the event which took place in the K-State Alumni Center.

The exhibit included works from 25 Kansas State University students, nine Kansas high school students and eight garments by guests from Hankyong National University in South Korea.

In the runway show, 46 entries by K-State students were accepted.

Winners in the high school category were:

  • 1st Ryal Mitchel, Bishop Seabury Academy
  • 2nd Kenzie Jones, Elkhart High School
  • 3rd Miranda Hicks, Elkhart High School
  • 4th Samantha White, Tonganoxie High School

Winners of the university cotton category were:

  • 1st Kelsie Doty, Council Grove
  • 2nd Cheryl Yacenda, Manhattan
  • Mounted exhibit awards: Jisel Blasi, Manhattan and Trey Desaire, Hays

Winners in the university denim category were:

  • 1st Victoria Umscheid, Belvue
  • 2nd Brennan Randel, Frankfort
  • Mounted exhibit awards: Olivia Wood, Wichita and Sara Sheehan, Wichita

Winners in the university wool category were:

  • 1st Katie Jones, Wichita
  • 2nd Kaitlyn Knight, Kansas City
  • Mounted exhibit award: Kimberly Gottschalk, Ellis

Winners in the university active wear category were:

  • 1st Rylee Bacon, Olathe
  • Mounted exhibit awards: Rylee Bacon, Olathe and Lauren Schoneman, Manhattan

Winners in the university "inspired by Janet Lee Rees" category were:

  • 1st Kathryn Zosche, Merriam
  • 2nd Kelsie Doty, Council Grove
  • 3rd Ying Ma, Yuzhong District, China
  • 4th Hayat Alboushy, Salmiya, Kuwait
  • 5th Lauren Nutt, Wichita
  • 6th Brooke Wallace, New Cambria
  • 7th Kimberly Gottschalk, Ellis
  • 8th Elena Andrus, Junction City
