Pat Pesci to conduct Dining Etiquette Workshop

Table manners may be getting worse, especially if you add cell phone use into a normal dining experience, said Pat Pesci, hospitality management instructor, who will lead the annual fall Dining Etiquette Workshop at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, in the Derby Dining Center's Gold Room.

“Because dashboard dining is a way of life for Americans and because of our fast paced society, we do not know or practice and use basic dining skills,” Pesci added.

The workshop is sponsored by Kansas State University’s Career and Employment Services to help students understand how good manners at the dining table are important when it comes to landing a job or that next client.

“The No. 1 problem – and most controversial issue in dining etiquette – is the alcohol issue,” Pesci said. “Overconsumption can do the most damage or derail an individual, business or organization.” He has worked with colleges, Athletics and Derby Dining at K-State and with universities around the country on dining etiquette workshops for 25 years.

The event will simulate a professional dining experience. Participants will engage in a variety of exercises that will guide them on how to make a positive impression during a meal with employers or other business professionals.

Business professional attire is required. Cost is $12 per person, payable by cash, check, credit card or K-State meal plan. The fee covers a full meal.
