Human Ecology students awarded multitude of scholarships

Friday, July 24, 2015

Two College of Human Ecology students were awarded national scholarships this summer.

Kaitlyn Ellis, a senior in hospitality management, received a $2,500 Joe Perdue Scholarship from the Club Managers Association of America Foundation. Ellis is the first student at Kansas State University to receive the honor, according to Kevin Roberts, associate professor and director of the undergraduate hospitality management program.

This summer she is a rotational management intern in the clubhouse at Interlachen Country Club, Minneapolis, Minn. She has completed introductory sommelier certification and plans to achieve the certified level this fall. She also hopes to become a Certified Club Manager.

The award provides tuition support to students who are pursuing careers in club management. Only five were selected nationwide.

Melea Stone, senior in interior design, was awarded a $1,500 scholarship from the International Furnishings and Design Association (IFDA).

Stone won the Leaders Commemorative Scholarship, which is awarded to a full-time student who has completed a minimum of four design courses in a post-secondary interior design or closely related program. Her application included an essay, examples of her design work, a letter of recommendation from a professor, and a list of her leadership activities.

Global Campus Honors

Two other College of Human Ecology students received scholarships for study this summer from K-State Global Campus.

Stefanie Griffin, senior in nutrition and health from Wichita and mother of two, received the Human Nutrition Scholarship for Distance Education Students.

Danielle Decker, junior in general human ecology, Summerville, S. C., was awarded a Global Campus scholarship.
