October is Exercise is Medicine-On Campus month
Monday, October 1, 2018
For the second year, the Department of Kinesiology and the Kinesiology Student Association (KSA) will be bringing the global health initiative started by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), Exercise Is Medicine- On Campus (EIM-OC), to K-State in October. ACSM has designated October as EIM-OC month. Exercise is Medicine- On Campus is a program calling upon universities and colleges to engage in the promotion of physical activity as a vital sign of health and encourages faculty, staff and students to work together toward improving the health and well-being of the campus community. Earlier this month, President Myers signed a proclamation declaring October as Exercise is Medicine- On Campus month at K-State.
The kinesiology department and KSA will host different activities for students, faculty and staff throughout the month. Participants can look forward to health and fitness assessments along with yoga sessions and the annual campus walk which will feature Willie the Wildcat and a prize giveaway. Dr. Keri Schadler from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston will also present the lecture “Exercise to improve chemotherapy efficacy: Evidence in mice and men”.
