Professional Biography

Patricia Barros, PhD, is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Couple and Family Therapy (CFT) and Clinic Director of the Family Center, Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist (KS, MD, and DC), and an AAMFT Approved Supervisor. Prior to joining K-State as a faculty member, she

served as the Clinic Director and Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Maryland couple and family therapy program for six years. She completed a clinical Postdoc at George Washington University and served as Adjunct Faculty at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Dr. Barros is a founding member of the MetroMFT, the professional organization of marriage and family therapists in the DMV area and served as its President elect.

Passionate about clinical work, Dr. Barros began her professional journey as mental health professional in 2005, in Brazil. She has experience providing therapy services to individuals, couples, families, and groups, from various cultural backgrounds, and in several settings, such as elementary school age children and their families, group therapy to low-income adolescent males, group therapy to widowed women low-income mothers, as well as work in a community mental health clinic in Kansas.

Personal Information

Patricia was born and raised in Pernambuco, Brazil, where most of her family still resides. She has a passion for her cultural heritage, from its food, to music, dance, and holidays. She loves spending quality time with her son, exploring nature, practicing yoga, and cooking together.
