We provide curriculum review and certification services. With this, members of the Divorce Education Assessment Collaborative team will provide an external review of your curriculum. Upon completion, we will provide you with a certificate (displayed on our website and for you to display/share as you desire) that the program covers content in specific core competencies or specializations. Core Constructs

Knowledge of the Process of Divorce or Separation

The course addresses the psychological, social, emotional, legal, and economic changes families can anticipate as part of the process of divorce or separation.

Navigating Common Post-Divorce Issues

The course addresses common post-divorce family experiences and potential areas of disagreement, such as those around new romantic relationships/partners, health care, religious upbringing, education/school activities, drop offs and pickups, and maintaining boundaries and rules across households.

Parenting Plans

The course addresses how to develop and the utility of having a parenting plan - a legal or written agreement about parenting issues that provides opportunities for both parents to have relationships with their child(ren).

Co-Parenting

The course addresses the benefits of working together (as coparents) to develop a functional and ideally cooperative relationship to facilitate raising children as a team. The course provides insights or suggestions into how to coparent cooperatively.

General Parenting Practices & Child Development

The course addresses practical aspects of parenting and how children’s needs vary at different developmental ages and stages (e.g., infancy, childhood, adolescence). Topics may include promotion of parent-child relationships, ensuring children have developmentally appropriate roles and responsibilities in their families, helping children adjust to parental separation, handling discipline, or supporting children in schoolwork and social challenges.

Communication

The course addresses how to facilitate healthy and effective communication. Topics may include active listening, I-statements (or other ways to structure complaints/concerns), keeping children out of the middle, reducing oversharing, and the use of communication technologies (e.g., texting, social media, phone, email). The subdomains for certification include communication with children and communication with coparent.

Children’s Coping & Adjustment Post-Divorce

The course addresses how children frequently cope and adjust to the divorce process, and how to ensure children do so in a healthy way (even in difficult circumstances). Topics might include helping children develop support systems, and warning signs that children might be struggling (e.g., drug misuse, anger, sadness, fear).

Conflict Management

The course addresses the consequences (psychological, health-wise) of exposure to conflict, and strategies to assist parents in managing conflict with co-parents (or other adults/children) post-divorce in a healthy and effective manner. Specific guidance may be provided on avoiding putting down or talking badly about a former spouse or partner, and how to address tense or uncomfortable conversations.

Managing Adult Well-Being

The course addresses strategies and resources that adults can use to maintain their health and well-being through the divorce process, as well as how to recognize, anticipate, or prevent common emotional, mental, or behavioral health challenges that can arise during the process of or following divorce.
