Student Organizations
The School of Consumer Sciences' student organizations and interest groups provide opportunities for experiential learning, networking, national and international competitions, travel, volunteer experiences, mentoring experiences, social events, friendships and much more. We encourage you to get involved!
Hospitality Management
The Hospitality Management Club (HMC) is a student club that combines the talents and energy of business-minded individuals who are passionate about customer service and ready to serve and embrace the myriad of opportunities available in this ever-changing world of hospitality.
What’s HMC up to?
Throughout the semester, HMC connects with various businesses in Manhattan and surrounding areas to learn from hospitality professionals. Whether that is getting tours of event spaces, restaurants, hotels, or entertainment venues HMC members are getting to see the hospitality industry firsthand. We also like to hold volunteer opportunities, not only to give back to the community but to give students real-life experiences and help them in their college careers.
An international honor society for students with an excellent academic record in the hospitality and tourism industry, Eta Sigma Delta invites juniors and seniors who have a GPA of at least 3.0 or who are in the top 20 percent of their class to apply. Members have opportunities to distinguish themselves in the eyes of educators, recruiters and industry executives in an increasingly competitive industry. Students receive networking benefits between ESD societies at more than 60 other chapters. Contact Jichul Jang, ESD advisor, for more information.
Personal Financial Planning
FPA K-State is a student organization that fosters the value of financial planning and advances the financial planning profession. Most of the student organization is made up of students enrolled in the Personal Financial Planning undergraduate program. FPA K-State allows students the opportunity to explore new ways to enrich academic experiences and prepare them for the profession. This organization offers students industry exposure through attending career events, hosting guest speakers who currently work in the profession, and hearing from recent graduates about their path to success. Contact Blake Gray, faculty advisor, for more information.
*See www.fpakc.org for upcoming events with the Financial Planning Association of Kansas City in Kansas City.
A select number of students majoring in PFP are invited to represent K-State at regional and national conferences. Our top students vie for spots to compete at these conferences. In 13 of the last 20 years, K-State’s students have placed in the top 3 in the country for every competition we’ve entered.
Interested in learning more about the upcoming conference or competition team opportunities, contact our gndergraduate program director, Derek Lawson.
Upperclassmen within the program are recruited during the end of semester to be mentors for the upcoming semester (Spring is as needed). If you are a PFP major and are interested in becoming a peer mentor, contact the faculty advisor, Yu Zhang.
Powercat Financial provides free information and education to current K-State students. Students can also apply to become peer counselors and to join the Student Advisory Board.
