Application Process for the MS

Program Requirements

Students entering the Kinesiology M.S. program must satisfy a minimum number of undergraduate competencies. These competencies are often satisfied with an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology or a similar field. Graduate faculty can require courses in addition to graduate coursework to address the subject deficiency that may be present prior to starting in the program.

Priority Deadlines

Students who are US citizens are considered for admission to the graduate program year round on a space available basis. For international students only, deadlines for applying for a specific term are:

  • January 8 for fall (August) enrollment
  • August 1 for spring (January) enrollment
  • December 1 for summer (June) enrollment

Students are encouraged to apply as early as possible to be considered for funding opportunities. Late applications may be deferred to a future term.

Application Requirements

Required graduate application materials consist of:

  • Transcripts - Applicants, including K-State students, must upload copies of transcripts. You can upload unofficial copies. Do NOT send or email transcripts to the Graduate School in place of uploading to your application. Official copies will be requested at a later time or along with an admission offer.
  • CV/Resume
  • Names and contact information of 3 individuals who will provide letters of recommendation. Ideally, these should be current or former PhD level professors or instructors who can speak directly to the applicant's potential in graduate school. The system will contact these individuals directly.
  • 2-3 page Personal Statement (including the following):
    • Discuss why you want to pursue a master's degree in Kinesiology, your primary area of interest (exercise physiology or exercise behavioral science, and faculty mentor(s) you are interested in working with (if pursuing the thesis option)
    • Areas you would like to increase your expertise, competencies, and personal development
    • Outline your professional goals, both immediate and long-term
    • Relevant research, scholarly/creative activities, or discover, work and/or experiences that speak to your potential success in a graduate program
    • Describe 1-3 skills/strengths you have that are relevant to you pursuing a graduate degree in our school
  • International applicants must also submit financial paperwork and language competency exam scores
  • Start an online application

Select graduate faculty will review your application and provide their recommendation to the Graduate School.
