Professional Biography

Justine Irving is a gerontologist and Associate Professor Teaching at Kansas State University, with a diverse professional background in government, the private sector and academia. She discovered her interest in gerontology through the later stages of her Bachelor of Psychology and has since continued to pursue professional and research opportunities in the field of aging. Prior to her current role, Dr. Irving served as a Research Fellow and Program Coordinator for the gerontology/healthy aging programs at Flinders University in Australia and online tutor for the World Health Organization's Healthy Ageing for Impact in the 21st Century: Global Online Leaders Training program. She also has many years of experience as a Senior Management Consultant in the health and community care sector, providing research, evaluation, and consulting services to enhance population health and social well-being. Dr. Irving specializes in mental health in later life, with a particular focus on the role of purpose in aging. Through her research she continues to explore how sense of purpose contributes to psychological health, quality of life well-being and resilience in later life.
