Greek Walk-a-thon

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN THE GREEK WALK-A-THON!

This is a 4-week long physical activity competition between houses, sponsored by the Kinesiology Department as part of Exercise Is Medicine month. Houses will be competing for fabulous prizes at the end of the month on the following three challenges:

  1. Greatest percentage (%) of organization members participating (get your friends to sign up!)
  2. Highest average daily steps per participating member
  3. Most days of active transport recorded per participating member

STEPS TO PARTICIPATION

1. Identify a member of your house that you feel would make a good Greek Walk-a-thon Champion.p

2. This person will sign the Champion Contract (pdf) and be in charge of inspiring other members to sign the consent forms, record their steps, and distributing our active messages. You must submit the contract by email by Wednesday, September 28th to enroll your house!

3. Next, after our team verifies the contract is signed, we will email the Champion a link that they will send to as many of their Greek house members as they can with a consent form to sign.

4. As members sign the consent forms, they will be invited to join a Walk-a-thon GroupMe and given access to a personal link to submit their steps for the week (You must sign the consent form to be able to submit your steps and receive credit towards percent of total Greek organization participation).

5. Each week participants will:

  1. look at our promotional materials,
  2. encourage more members to join the Greek Walk-a-thon,
  3. and record their steps.

We will be sending weekly updates in the GroupMe.

RESOURCES FOR PARTICIPANTS

  1. The first step to participation is to sign the consent form. We will use the contact info you enter on this form to send you the weekly surveys.
  2. Each Sunday, you will receive an email with a link to enter your physical activity information for the past week. Watch the brief video below to see what information you'll enter each week. You can use any device for tracking steps If you'd like to keep track of your minutes and steps throughout the week, you can use this Excel sheet (xlsx) or this worksheet (docx). Be sure to complete the survey by Tuesday evening for your results to be counted toward your house totals!
  1. Once you sign the consent form and provide your phone number, you will be added to the GroupMe chat. You will receive about 3 messages per week related to the walk-a-thon. You can add friends from your house to the GroupMe and encourage them to join. Remember, there is a prize for the house with the greatest number of participants, but you must sign the consent form and complete the weekly survey to be counted as a participant. Join any time throughout the 4 weeks!
