Internships

Internships are an integral part of our undergraduate programs, providing students with real-world experiences, networking opportunities, and critical personal and professional growth — all with the support of their academic units as they learn and explore.

Each academic unit has a required internship portion midway through the program. This allows students to have a solid foundation of courses and industry understanding before diving into their practical learning experience.

Student internship opportunities are available at local, national, and in some cases, international levels. Just think of all that one can learn, see, and do in a summer.

Fashion Studies

Internships typically occur during the summer of senior year, and based on the chosen track — either Fashion Business or Fashion Design — students will be directed to pursue specific internship opportunities. This process is facilitated by our faculty, program networking events, and the support of our alumni.

Events and Hospitality Management

Requires 400 hours of industry-related experience, whether that is food & beverage services, lodging, or entertainment and events. Students have the opportunity to intern with small mom-and-pop enterprises and large international units, such as Marriott and Disney.

*Prior approval on internship locations is needed outside the pre-approved property location list.

Personal Financial Planning

It is required to have an internship in the summer of the senior year. Personal financial planning students are given numerous opportunities throughout the school year to meet and network with firms and industry professionals, and many students secure internships during the summer preceding their junior and sophomore years.

In certain instances, an externship may also be an option when available and approved by the program chair, serving as an alternative to an internship.

Students typically seek internships through personal connections, program leads, and the Professional Connections Event in the Fall.

Internships offer direct benefits to students and their educational experience, as classroom knowledge is combined with practical skills and on-the-job expertise.
