Dietetics Certificate

The undergraduate certificate in dietetics is designed for individuals who already hold a bachelor's degree and want to advance toward becoming a Registered Dietitian (RD).

Registered Dietitians are healthcare professionals who translate the science of food and nutrition to enhance the well‑being of individuals and communities. They work in a wide range of settings—including hospitals, sports teams, private practices, and military units—making dietetic training both broad and practical. This 52-credit certificate provides the essential academic foundation in natural, behavioral, and social sciences, supported by coursework in communication, research, and management, helping learners build the knowledge needed for the next step in the RD pathway.

Note: Registered Dietitians (RD) may also use the title Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN); both are equally valid and refer to the same credential.

This certificate is available on the Manhattan campus and online as part of Kansas State University’s ACEND‑accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD). A mid-curriculum curriculum review and continuous enrollment towards certificate completion is required to become eligible for a DPD Verification Statement. The Verification Statement is an important milestone that allows candidates to apply to accredited supervised practice programs on the path to RD credentialing or to sit for the NDTR exam. To earn the Registered Dietitian (RD) credential, learners must also complete an accredited supervised practice program, earn a master's degree, and pass the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) exam.
