Fashion Studies Graduate Programs

An overarching mission of the Department of Interior Design and Fashion Studies is to advance environmental and social responsibility through scholarship, education and outreach that enhance ecologically sustainable products, processes, and behavior.

The department offers two graduate programs: a MS degree in fashion studies and a PhD degree in human ecology with a specialization in sustainable fashion business:

All students are prepared for positions in education, industry or non-profit sectors requiring expertise specific to the field.

The Sustainable Fashion Business area of emphasis in both MS and PhD degrees allow for individualized programs of study capitalizing on the interests and disciplinary backgrounds of students and faculty. Each program of study builds theoretical, technical, and methodological skills necessary to research and address human ecological problems involving textile and clothing related products, processes, and behavior.

The Merchandising MS degree emphasis is offered 100% online through the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (GPIDEA). Two unique advantages of this program are: the online delivery which provides convenience to working professionals; and access to the knowledge and expertise of graduate faculty from 5 universities (i.e., Kansas State University, North Dakota State University, Oklahoma State University, South Dakota State University, and the University of Nebraska). For current professionals seeking advanced theoretical background and training in merchandise management, the GPIDEA program can provide opportunities for career advancement within the soft goods and related industries.
