Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
The Health Professions Exploration Program is a program from the College of Health and Human Sciences that allows high school students an opportunity to explore career paths in the health care industry from a wide lens, including professions they may not have known about or considered in the past. They will talk to current students and alumni, learn from K-State experts and interact with local professionals, all while experiencing life on K-State's main campus.
Program Questions
This program is ideal for any 2024-2025 high school juniors or seniors interested in exploring careers in health care.
No worries! This is a great opportunity for you to explore what health care is like and see if it’s something you want to pursue in the future.
Students are asked to bring toiletries, any necessary medications, several changes of clothes (lounge, professional, exercise, casual), and comfortable walking shoes. They may also consider bringing snacks, extra bedding, or extra towels.
All of your meals and program expenses will be covered with your program registration. However, we do encourage students to bring some extra spending cash if they’d like for things like coffee runs or convenience store visits.
Yes – students are able to bring a personal phone if they wish. They will be responsible for it and asked to not use it during activities with the program.
There will be up to 20 students participating in each week of the program.
Students should arrive on campus on Sunday* between 2 - 3 p.m. for check-in. Upon check-in, students will receive their room assignment. At 3:00 p.m., parents and students will have a welcome session before parents depart. Dinner will be provided that evening.
*2024: Students in the first session will check in June 23. Students in the second session will check in July 7.

We define a health profession as any career that makes an impact on the health of humans. Participants will be exposed to numerous areas of human health throughout the week including topic areas such as health providers (medicine, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, chiropractic), nutrition, biomedical engineering, financial health, sports medicine, food safety, hematology, medical ethics and community/public health.
Housing Questions
Roommates will be randomly assigned based on gender.
Yes – participants will be given the opportunity to request a roommate on their registration. Both individuals must indicate interest in sharing a room for the week in order to be assigned together.
Program participants will be staying in a double room at one of our on-campus residence halls. Hall location varies from program to program.
There is an additional fee of $50 for students who request a single room for the week.
Each room will include a dresser, desk, and 2 beds with mattresses. Each bed will have it’s own set of sheets*, a blanket*, and pillow provided for the student to use if they wish. The room will also have a set of towels available for each student. The building also has a laundry facility available for a fee. Additional features may be available depending on the residence hall.
* Please note that sheets provided by the residence hall are not fitted. Blankets that are provided are not extremely heavy. Participants in past programs have recommended others to bring their own twin XL fitted sheet and additional blankets.
Students will be provided three meals each day at either the Kramer Dining Center or Derby Dining Center on K-State's main campus. There may be 1-2 meals catered off campus.
Students with any food allergies and special diet needs should indicate this on their program registration form. The Dining Center teams have dietitians on staff that will work with individuals to help plan meals and locate the appropriate foods within the dining center to keep you healthy and safe.
Yes - Each participant will receive a key to their room. Each residence hall also has safety measures in place for accessing the building.
Restroom styles vary depending on the residence hall. Students should plan to use a community style restroom with other students of the same gender in the program. More details will be shared once a residence hall location is secured.
Transportation Questions
Yes – you will be given a parking pass that allows you to leave your vehicle parked on campus for the program duration. Please note that students will not be allowed to drive their private vehicle during the program, nor take any other participants with them.
A parking permit for visitor parking can be provided during check-in. There is no additional fee to park your car on campus for the week.
