2014 ATID Student Symposium
The 2014 keynote speaker, Dr. Debra Rowe, is a leading advocate in sustainability and education for sustainable development. Her presentation, "Education, Action and Career Pathways: Creating a Better Future," was held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 2014 in the KSU Alumni Center banquet room. Dr. Rowe's presentation was an ADVANCE Distinguished Lecture and sponsored by the Office for the Advancement of Women in Science and Engineering and the Department of Apparel, Textiles, and Interior Design in the College of Human Ecology.

The lecture was part of a day-long event including professional development and networking sessions for students, professionals and alumni. Students interacted with professional advisory board members for the interior design program and the apparel and textiles program and with a delegation of faculty and graduate students from Hankyong National University in South Korea.
On Thursday, May 1, 2014, for the first time in its ten-year history the ATID Student Symposium at Kansas State University included an apparel and textiles competition that resulted in a mounted exhibit and runway show of juried work by university and high school students. The Showcase of Excellence was held at the K-State Alumni Center. Forty six entries by Kansas State University were accepted for show on the runway. Twenty five entries by Kansas State University students and nine entries by Kansas high school students were accepted for the mounted exhibit. In addition, the exhibit included eight garments by guests for Hankyong National University in South Korea. Of these eight garments displayed in the mounted exhibit, five were contemporary and three were traditional Korean designs. Categories for entries by Kansas State University students were: Cotton, Denim, Wool, Active Wear and Inspired by Janet Lee Rees.
