Professional Biography

Dr. Melody L. A. LeHew received her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Textile and Clothing from The Ohio State University and her Ph.D. in Retail and Consumer Science from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Her scholarship program focuses on sustainable strategies in soft goods production, distribution and consumption as well as infusing sustainability competencies into textile and apparel education.

Dr. LeHew has experience teaching consumer behavior, fashion theory, retail management, marketing, and business strategy. She has received external funding to support sustainability research from USDA NIFA Higher Education Challenge grants, and funding to support business strategy research from the International Council of Shopping Centers. Her sustainability work is also supported by Kansas Agricultural Experiment Station.

Dr. LeHew values shared governance and the philosophy of servant leadership, as reflected by her seven years of service as a Faculty Senator, which culminated in being elected and serving as President of Faculty Senate. She recently served two years as Interim Department Head in the department of Hospitality Management and has been elected to serve as President of the International Textile and Apparel Association in 2019.
