K-State CFT Program Values Statement

We, the K-State CFT students, faculty, and staff embrace you as a whole person and value your unique identities, culture, and experiences. We strive to create program policies and practices that promote equal access to the resources and power necessary for fostering healing and growth in each other, our clients, and communities. To this end, we work to address inequities in the therapy room, in our classrooms, and in each of our familial and community spheres of influence by practicing cultural humility and addressing our biases. We are committed to the ongoing self-reflection and critical dialogue required to become affirming therapists to all clients including sexual and gender minorities; diverse family and relationship structures; Black, Indigenous, and People of Color; religious minorities; older adults; immigrants, refugees, and foreign nationals; those of low socioeconomic status; and those with disabilities. An affirming stance includes the belief that gender and sexualities exist on a spectrum that is part of normal human development, and that gender and sexual minoritized identities and relationships are inherently healthy. We encourage openness to the influence of others as we seek to understand, and compassionately respond to, the perspectives of our clients, our communities, and each other. Our commitment to diversity not only prepares our graduates to excel in diverse and global workplaces but also equips them with the empathy and skills necessary to contribute positively to society.
