Undergraduate Minors & Certificates
The School of Human Sciences offers a variety of options for students who are interested in enhancing their current major to gain additional knowledge and skills in a specific area. Minors and certificates are currently available in the areas of well being, conflict resolution, couple and family therapy, early childhood education, gerontology, and human development and family science.
Adding/Dropping a Minor or Certificate
Available Options:

The Children in Group Settings Minor provides future human service professionals with the requisite knowledge of the developmental changes that typically occur in the early childhood years, variations in development that may occur, and how best to support children's learning and development.
With the Early Childhood Consultation Undergraduate Certificate, you will learn the unique characteristics of early childhood environments and how to support early childhood professionals through practice based coaching. Offered online only.
The Pre-Kindergarten Education Minor is restricted to K-State students enrolled in Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) or Elementary Education (ELED). The minor builds on pre-service teacher education coursework and addresses content knowledge and skills needed for licensed Pre-Kindergarten teachers in Kansas.

The Conflict Analysis and Trauma Studies Minor provides students, faculty, and human service professionals the knowledge for establishing post-trauma and post-conflict reconstruction practice, research, service, and policy to improve interpersonal and social systems.
The Conflict Resolution Certificate offers students the fundamentals of conflict resolution and practice. It is intended to meet the needs of those individuals who seek introductory training in conflict resolution.
The Interdisciplinary Conflict Resolution Minor provides students an understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of analyzing and resolving conflict within the context of a variety of academic disciplines and professional careers. Students will have the option to choose between three tracks: Family, Legal, and Organizational.

The Human Development and Family Science Minor allows students to integrate the study of families, human development, and relationships with their major.
The Philanthropy Certificate will enhance knowledge of the principles and practice of philanthropy. It is intended to meet the needs of individuals who will work for nonprofit organizations that depend on philanthropy, the giving of “time, talent, and treasure,” to improve the well-being of others.
The Child Welfare Certificate is designed to prepare students to be an effective child advocate and enhance the lives of children. This certificate complements majors including those interested in education, healthcare, social work, human development and family science, integrative human sciences, psychology, criminology, and many more.

Students adding a Gerontology minor become marketable in a wide array of fields and open themselves up to a love of working with older adults and investigating the process of aging.

The Pre-Couple and Family Therapy Minor provides a foundation in couple and family therapy theory and foundational helping skills designed to prepare students for graduate education in couple and family therapy.
With an increased societal focus on well-being, this minor provides knowledge to evaluate your own well-being as well as the well-being of those around you. You will learn how to develop strategies for improving well-being in various career pathways.
