Alex Vonderschmidt '19

Dr. Alexander Vonderschmidt is a postdoctoral researcher at the Food is Medicine Institute within Tufts University’s Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy. His research evaluates the health and economic impacts of “Food is Medicine” interventions to address chronic disease and promote equity in food access and health disparities.

Alex recently completed his Ph.D. in Population Health and Food Systems at the University of Edinburgh, where his work examined the health impacts of sustainable food system transitions. During his doctorate, he collaborated with the Scottish government on two reports to inform food policy in Scotland. Alex received his master’s degree in Nutritional Epidemiology from Cornell University, where he also completed training as a Registered Dietitian.

As an undergraduate at K-State, Alex pursued dual degrees in Dietetics and French Literature while working in various roles across the campus. He served as a community assistant and mail clerk in Moore and Marlatt Halls, managed summer conferences as a Cool Cat, and worked under Dr. Kelly Whitehair on the recipe development team at the Derby and Kramer Dining Centers and as a teaching assistant for her dietetics courses. He could also be found rolling burritos off campus at Chipotle in Aggieville.
